Map readers improve in Autumn sun

Today I had a superb day teaching map reading to an ‘improvers’ group from Derbyshire Eco Centre.

Sadly we had a few ‘no shows’ so the group of seven was down to Jane, Dave and Pete (plus me!)  We took the 10.50 6.1 bus from  Steeple Grange to Callow Park just south of Wirksworth and then the navigation started! In groups of two they made their way up the side of the Ecclesbourne Valley stopping for an intro to the Silva Compass 1-2-3 system on the way.

Back at the centre there was no let-up as the final task was to draw a contour map from a  written description.  The group did well and were all keen to join the Refresh Walk on 16 December.   This is open to anyone who wants to come along – it is informal and a  free chance to refresh the navigation skills learned during the year with me or in any other way !

To book for the refresh walk.
